TWILIGHT SEDATION
We have perfected the technique of twilight sedation which we started using in 1992. Back then, it was a completely new way or working and performing cosmetic surgery in the UK, and as pioneers in the field we have always remained at the forefront of advances in this technique, so much so that we can perform most major surgeries in this way.
From using twilight sedation most of our patients feel well enough for discharge by our surgeon, anaesthetist and nurse within 45 minutes to an hour after walking out of theatre, even for the longest procedures.
All this has some distinct benefits to you. Firstly, you will feel a lot better in yourself immediately after surgery. Normally people only start to fully recover after 24-48 hours after a general anaesthetic, with twilight sedation, you this is within 12 hours.
You will experience less bruising and less swelling from twilight sedation surgery. This is because our surgeon must be a lot more precise and careful with his technique so as to not cause any pain or discomfort. For this reason, our procedures typically last 50% longer that they would under a general anaesthetic.
You will not require an overnight stay. In most operations, it is the effect of the general anaesthetic that requires you to have an overnight stay, not the operation itself, and as we use twilight sedation, the need to stay overnight is removed.
Lastly, people who have experienced both kinds of sedation say that they feel a lot better immediately, can resume day to day activities a lot sooner, and heal quicker, all of which are very desirable indeed!
